The length of curling games and the potential impact of shortening games - predominantly by reducing the number of ends from ten to eight - will be a vital topic of discussion at the upcoming World Curling Congress and Annual General Assembly in Cancun, Mexico, from 4 to 6 September 2019.

The International Olympic Committee announced on Thursday (25 July) the Athlete Role Models who will mentor the young athletes competing at the Youth Olympic Games from 9-22 January in Lausanne, Switzerland. Canada’s John Morris has been nominated by the World Curling Federation and selected by the International Olympic Committee as the Athlete Role Model for curling.

The new World Mixed Doubles Qualification Event will be played in 2019 at Greenacres Curling Club, near Howwood, in Scotland, from Monday 2 December to Saturday 7 December. The open entry event will qualify the final four Member Associations for the World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship 2020 – this is the first time the world championship has had a qualification element.

The City of Glasgow in Scotland has now launched a campaign to recruit volunteers for the next three major sporting events to be hosted there – including the LGT World Men’s Curling Championship 2020, which will be staged in the iconic Emirates Arena between 28 March and 5 April next year.
Fuessen, Germany
The 21st WCF / DCV Hummelt Junior Curling Camp took place from 7-13 July in Fuessen, Germany. The camp wraps up the World Curling Federation’s summer camps and courses, after successful ice-tech, umpire and introduction to instructing courses.

Following the Ice-Tech Course in Fuessen, Germany, our series of camps and courses has moved onto the Introduction to Instruction course and the Basic Umpire course this week. Traditionally, both of these courses have been held through in-person workshops where participants travel to one location in order to take part.

The World Curling Federation Ice-Tech Course kicked off our series of summer camps and courses this week in Fuessen, Germany. We chatted with two of the best ice makers in the world – Mark Callan and Stefan Roethlisberger – who made the ice for the PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games and Paralympic Winter Games respectfully.

Milan-Cortina, Italy, will host the 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. The decision was taken on Monday (24 June) during the 134th Session of the International Olympic Committee in Lausanne, Switzerland. The other candidate in the ballot was Stockholm-Åre, Sweden. The Olympics will take place from 6 to 22 February and the Paralympics will be held from 6 to 15 March.

The World Curling Federation has been forced into the difficult decision to suspend the Curling World Cup in season 2019-2020. Earlier this year Kingdomway Sports, the funding partner for the series, breached the agreement by refusing to make all payments as outlined in the contract.

The LGT World Women’s Curling Championship 2021 will be held in the ice arena at the KSS sports complex in Schaffhausen, Switzerland from Saturday 20 to Sunday 28 March. This event will be the final world women’s championship before the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing, China, therefore, vital Olympic points will be on offer to the competing Member Associations.
