Niklas Edin made a triumphant debut at this level when he led his Swedish men’s team to a 6-5 extra-end victory over Switzerland’s Ralph Stöckli in the final of the Le Gruyère European Curling Championships in Aberdeen on Saturday.

Germany wins Le Gruyère European Curling Championships 2009 Women’s Gold

Germany’s Andrea Schöpp won her seventh European Championship title when she beat Switzerland’s Mirjam Ott by 7-5 in Saturday’s final of the Le Gruyère European Curling Championships in Aberdeen. Switzerland opened the scoring with a single in the opening end, but Germany responded with one in the second.

Malcolm Richardson to be awarded 2010 World Curling Freytag Award

The World Curling Federation (WCF) has announced that Malcolm Richardson, former President of the European Curling Federation (ECF), will be awarded the 2010 World Curling Freytag Award. The announcement was made during the WCF’s semi-annual General Assembly which took place during the European Championships in Aberdeen, Scotland.

Basel, Switzerland to host World Men’s Championship in 2012

The World Curling Federation (WCF) has announced that the World Men’s Curling Championship in 2012 has been awarded to the City of Basel in Switzerland. The event will be held from the 31st of March until the 8th of April in the St Jakob Halle.

Le Gruyère European Championships in Aberdeen Set to Start

International championship curling returns to Scotland, the home of the sport, for the first time since the 2005 Women’s World Championship, when the Le Gruyère European Curling Championships get underway on Saturday 5th of December in Aberdeen. Regina, Canada to host 2011 Ford World Men’s Championship

The World Curling Federation (WCF) and the Canadian Curling Association (CCA) have announced that Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada will stage the 2011 Ford World Men’s Curling Championship. It is the third time that the World Men’s Curling Championship returns to Regina. In 1973 Sweden won the event there (Skip: Kjell Oscarius) and in 1983 it was won by Canada (Skip: Ed Werenich).

Brazil set to challenge USA for 2010 berth at Men's World Championship

The four-sheet Grafton Curling Club in Grafton, N.D., will host a challenge between USA and Brazil on Feb. 5-7 for the final North American berth at the 2010 Capital One World Men's Curling Championship in Cortina, Italy.

China, Japan & Korea sweep the board at Pacific Championships

China won Gold, Japan took Silver and Korea won the Bronze in both the men’s and women’s competitions at the Pacific Curling Championships 2009. In the women’s final Team China skipped by reigning women’s world champion Bingyu Wang met Team Japan (Moe Meguro). Final score: 10-3.

Continental Cup to continue - World Financial Group title sponsor

The World Curling Federation (WCF) and the Canadian Curling Association (CCA) have reached a partnership agreement to continue to stage the unique Continental Cup of Curling. The World Financial Group has signed a contract to be the title sponsor of the event for the next two editions in 2011 and 2012, with an option for a third year in 2013.

Esbjerg, Denmark to host 2011 Capital One World Women’s Championship

COPENHAGEN, DENMARK – The World Curling Federation (WCF) has announced that the City of Esbjerg, Demark will host the Capital One World Women’s Curling Championship in 2011. The event will be staged in the heart of the North Sea harbour city in an ice arena complex from 19-27 March 2011.

Canada captures double gold at World Seniors Championships

Canada scored double gold for the second year in a row at the 2009 World Senior Curling Championships. Canada’s Pat Sanders thrashed Switzerland’s Renate Nedkoff 10-1 to win the women’s championship. The Canadians, from Victoria, British Columbia, scored four in the first end and then added five additional stolen points over the next three ends to overwhelm the Swiss.
