The World Curling Federation was saddened to hear of the sudden death of Frank Duffy who died on 16th December. Frank began curling aged 12 on a frozen pond in Falkland, Fife and his future commitment to the sport lead to competitive success throughout Scotland. Sadly Frank was involved in an accident at work at the age of 35 and was thereafter confined to a wheelchair.

Sweden continues to top the World Curling Federation’s women’s rankings and Canada the men’s following the conclusion of the Le Gruyère European Curling Championships 2010 in Champéry, Switzerland this weekend.

After three years of falling at the last hurdle, Norway's Thomas Ulsrud finally took European gold when he beat Denmark's Rasmus Stjerne by 5-3 at the Le Gruyere European Curling Championships in Champery, Switzerland on Saturday evening. It was a tense game, with three blank ends. The Norwegians opened with a single and, after blanking the second, the Danes levelled in the third.

Sweden's Stina Viktorsson beat Scotland's Eve Muirhead by 8-6 in a high-class final on Saturday afternoon at the Le Gruyère European Curling Championships in Champéry, Switzerland to take gold and her first European crown. The game see-sawed between the two teams five times. The Scots started well, scoring two in the first end with a simple draw by Muirhead.

The Danish men and Swedish women are through to the finals of the Le Gruyère European Curling Championships in Champéry, Switzerland. Denmark will meet Norway in the men's gold medal game and the Swedes face Scotland in the women's game on Saturday.

World Curling Federation Member Associations have unanimously approved changes to the WCF’s Olympic Winter Games qualifying system. Members voted to create a two year point qualification period and the creation of a new Olympic Qualification event. The new system takes effect immediately, pending approval of the International Olympic Committee, ahead of the Sochi 2014 games.

Scotland's Eve Muirhead and Norway's Thomas Ulsrud both booked their places in Saturday's finals of the Le Gruyère European Curling Championships in Champéry, Switzerland when they won the Page 1-2 Play-off games on Thursday evening. The Scottish women were up against Russia's Liudmila Privivkova and finished the game off in spectacular style in the ninth end.

Scotland, Russia, Switzerland and Sweden are through to the playoff stage of the women's event at this year's Le Gruyère European Curling Championships. Scotland's Eve Muirhead qualified in first place from the round-robin with two six-ends wins on Wednesday.

Germany and Switzerland top the men's A Group rankings at the Le Gruyère European Curling Championships with six wins and one loss each. Germany's Andy Kapp followed up an 8-2 win over France's Thomas Dufour in his Tuesday morning game with a 7-6 win over defending champion Niklas Edin of Sweden in the evening.

The World Curling Federation (WCF) and the Canadian Curling Association (CCA) announced today that Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, will stage the 2012 World Women’s Curling Championship, March 17-25 at the 5,000 seat Enmax Centre. It will mark the 12th time that Canada has hosted the World Women’s Championship since the event began in 1979 in Perth, Scotland.

The opening day of the Le Gruyère European Curling Championships 2010 in Champéry, Switzerland opened with four draws in the A Group - two games each for the men and women. Defending men's champion Niklas Edin and his team from Sweden opened their campaign well, with two wins, following up their opening 5-3 victory over the Netherlands with a tight 7-6 win over Russia.

The 2010 Le Gruyère European Curling Championships for both men’s and women’s teams gets underway on Saturday 4th of December in Champéry, Switzerland. It is the 36th edition of the event since it began in Megève, France in 1975.

China has won gold at this year’s Pacific Men’s Curling Championship, beating Korea 9-3 and completing the event which was held in Uiseong, Korea on an unbeaten record. In the women’s event, the Korean women’s team won the gold medal game 10-7 beating Vancouver Olympic bronze medallists Bingyu Wang and her team from China.
