Curling may not seem the most conventional way of finding a spouse or partner, but in the mixed doubles competition at the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games a couple of pairs have combined romance with their quest for gold. Anastasia Bryzgalova and Aleksandr Krushelnitckii (OAR) married last summer after first meeting through junior curling competitions in Russia.

After five sessions of round-robin play at the Gangnueng Curling Centre, three teams share top spot in the Olympic mixed doubles rankings, each on four wins and one loss so far. Norway and the Olympic Athlete from Russia team went all the way to extra ends before they overcame Korea and Finland, while Canada had a six-end 7-2 victory over current world champions Switzerland.

Elmer Freytag, a founding member of the International Curling Federation - now the World Curling Federation - will be inducted to the World Curling Hall of Fame (formerly the World Curling Freytag Award) along with two other highly deserving candidates - Korea's Young C. Kim, who co-founded the Korean Curling Federation and Canada's 2010 Olympic gold medallist Kevin Martin.

Canada have an impressive haul when it comes to Olympic Winter Games curling medals and not only that, it's never been with the same team twice. Canada women have won medals at every Games since curling returned to the Olympics in 1998. That year, in Nagano, Japan, Sandra Schmirler's team collected the gold medals and in 2002 in Salt Lake City, Kelley Law's foursome took home bronze.
History will be made at the Gangneung Curling Centre at 9:05 on Thursday 8 February when eight qualified pairings step onto the ice to contest the opening games of the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018 mixed doubles competition. With the opening ceremony taking place on Friday 9 February, this will be the very first action of the entire 2018 Olympic Winter Games.
