The World Curling Federation (WCF) is delighted to announce the winners of its Sports Media Trainee Programme (SMTP) for the 2016-2017 curling season. The winning candidates will join the WCF media team at curling championships over the next six months.

England has football, Canada has ice hockey, France has cycling and Japan has karate! When England held the World Cup or France hosts the Tour De France there is a feeling of a homecoming to the origins of the sport. In four years, karate will feel at home at the Tokyo Olympics.

Russia claimed the World Mixed Curling Championship 2016 title with a 5-4 extra end victory over Sweden at the Kazan Sports Palace, in Kazan, Russia. Sweden collected the Silver medals, while an 8-4 win over Korea gave Scotland the Bronze medals. The Gold Medal game saw two undefeated teams in Sweden and Russia face off for the World Championship title and the Gold medals.

The Latvian Curling Association (LCA) recently hosted a World Curling Federation (WCF) Olympic Celebration Tour (OCT) as part of its mission to increase its regular curlers from 200 to 700 by 2022. Over the four-day event, in the countries capital, Riga, over 350 people got involved, including 250 children at FloorCurl sessions during school time.

A record 37 teams will compete at the World Mixed Curling Championship 2016 (WMxCC) in Kazan, Russia, which begins later this week. This event will run from Friday 14 until Saturday 22 October in the Kazan Sports Palace and will see Andorra and Croatia compete in their very first World Curling Championship.

Voting has opened for four positions on the World Curling Federation’s (WCF) Athlete Commission. The WCF Athlete Commission, established in March 2013, serves as an independent and consultative body, and acts as the collective voice for elite curling athletes.

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has published the 2017 Prohibited List. The List will come into effect on 1 January 2017. The Prohibited List details substances and methods banned in sports in-and out-of-competition. The 2017 Prohibited List, the 2017 Summary of Modifications, and the 2017 Monitoring Programme are available for download on the WCF website

The World Curling Federation’s official timekeeper, EDOX, has released a special edition curling watch, which is the first of its kind. The watch, which has men’s and women’s versions, features the WCF logo on the face and an embossed curling stone on the caseback.

The World Curling Federation’s (WCF) Olympic Celebration Tour (OCT) will be funded by the Foundation for Global Sports Development (GSD) for another season, it has been confirmed today (Friday 23 September 2016). The OCT is designed to generate interest in curling in the lead up to the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, Korea and capitalise on the interest from Sochi 2014.

The World Curling Federation (WCF) is deeply saddened to learn of the recent passing of, Gerrit-Jan Scholten, 64, from the Netherlands Curling Association. Gerrit-Jan served as a representative for the Netherlands for many years at the World Curling Federation’s congresses and annual meetings.

The World Curling Federation is looking for elite curlers - who have competed in international competition in the past eight years - to join its Athlete Commission. Nominations are being taken until Monday 26 September 2016, for four positions.

The 54 Member Associations of the World Curling Federation (WCF) have approved the WCF’s proposed resolutions for sweeping and brushes in elite curling, at its Annual General Assembly (AGA) in Stockholm, Sweden, today (Saturday 10 September).
