The Pioneer Hi-Bred World Men’s Curling Championship 2019 is set to take place from 30 March to 7 April in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. A total of 13 men’s teams from around the globe, each with their own journey to get to the championship, will battle for the world title over nine days of play.

The World Curling Federation has appointed eight members to its new Technical Commission that will be given a brief to ensure outstanding ice conditions at all World Curling Federation events. The commission will also be charged with assisting Member Associations in improving existing, or building new, dedicated curling facilities.

The World Junior Curling Championships 2020 will be held in Krasnoyarsk Russia, next season, from Saturday 15 to Saturday 22 February. Krasnoyarsk, is in Siberia, in the heart of Russia, and held the Winter Universiade Games, earlier in March. The World Juniors in 2020 will be played in the 3,500 seater Crystal Ice Arena. Ice Hockey was played there during the university games.

The World Curling Federation has appointed Olympic Winter Games Salt Lake City 2002 Olympic gold medallist, Rhona Howie (nee. Martin), from Scotland, to its staff team. Howie takes up the role of Equipment and Logistics Officer based at Greenacres, near Glasgow, where the majority of World Curling competition equipment is kept.

China have won the World Wheelchair Curling Championship 2019 in Stirling, Scotland. Their victory came against the hosts, Scotland, at The Peak, in Stirling, by 5-2. This is first time China have collected the World Wheelchair Curling Championship gold medals.

Norway’s Magnus Ramsfjell and Sweden’s Isabella Wranaa skipped their teams to gold medals at Sunday’s (10 March) Winter Universiade Games 2019 curling finals, in the Ivan Yarygin Sports Palace in Krasnoyarsk, Russia. Norwegian skip, Magnus Ramsfjell is backed by third Martin Sesaker, second Bendik Ramsfjell and lead Gaute Nepstad.

Korea have won the bronze medals at the World Wheelchair Curling Championship 2019 on Sunday morning at The Peak, in Stirling, Scotland. The bronze medal game ended 10-3, against Norway, for skip Soonseok Seo and his team made-up of fourth player Huitae Yang, second Byongseok Min and lead Min-Ja Bang. They are supported by alternate Jinho Cha and coach Jong Chul Beak.

Switzerland is set to host another international curling event in 2020, with the World Wheelchair Curling Championship 2020 to be played in Wetzikon, which lies 30 kilometres south east of Zurich. The event will be played in the Curling Hall Wetzikon from Saturday 29 February to Saturday 7 March and will feature 12 Member Associations.

The Kisakallio Sports Institute in Lohja, Finland will continue to cement its place as a world class international curling venue when it hosts the second World Qualification Event. The competition will run from Monday 13 to Saturday 18 January 2020. The next editions of the World Wheelchair-B and World Junior-B Curling Championships will also be held there.

The World Wheelchair Curling Championship 2019, which will feature 12 Member Associations for the first time, begins at The Peak, in Stirling, Scotland on Sunday (3 March). Previously, ten Member Associations competed for the world wheelchair curling title.

It went all the way to an extra end, but with a single stolen point, Russia claimed the women’s gold medals, beating Canada by 8-7 in Saturday (23 February) afternoon’s women’s final of the World Junior Championships in Liverpool, Canada. In the bronze medal game, Switzerland beat China by 6-4.

Tyler Tardi successfully completed the defence of his world title when he led his Canadian team to a 9-4 win over Switzerland in Saturday morning’s men’s gold medal game at the World Junior Curling Championships 2019 in Liverpool, Canada. At the same time Scotland took bronze medals, beating Norway by 8-5.
