Hosts Finland and Italy remain unbeaten after day 2 of the World Wheelchair Curling Qualification event on three wins and no losses. The new team line-up from Italy, skipped by Paolo Ioriatti, had a resounding 12-0 win over newcomers Turkey in the morning and then beat Latvia 7-2 in the evening session.

The World Wheelchair Curling Qualification 2012 got underway on Saturday in Lohja, Finland. The competition is being held at the Kisakallio Sports Institute for the third year in a row. A total of 11 countries have come to compete for the final two places at the 2013 World Wheelchair Curling Championships.

The 2012 World Wheelchair Curling Qualification event gets underway on Saturday at the Kisakallio Sports Institute in Lohja, Finland. Turkey will make their international wheelchair curling debut at this event, joining 10 other teams including the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Norway, Poland and Switzerland.

Member Associations of the World Curling Federation have voted to accept the Kosovo Curling Federation as a provisional member of the world governing body of the sport of curling. The KCF becomes the 50th Member of the WCF. The vote took place at the WCF Annual General Assembly held at the conclusion of the inaugural World Curling Federation Annual Congress at the Turnberry Resort in Scotland.

The World Curling Federation has announced that that Flims, Switzerland has been awarded the World Junior Curling Championships in 2014. The event will be staged in the Waldhaus Arena from the 26th of February to the 5th of March 2014. It will be the third time that the town of Flims in the Swiss Canton of Graubünden will host the world juniors.

The inaugural World Curling Federation (WCF) Annual Congress is now underway, with over 100 delegates arriving from around the world yesterday ready to take part in a series of meetings and discussions aimed at developing the sport of curling. The majority of the WCF’s 49 Member Associations will be represented at the Congress this week where several key issues will be up for discussion.
There are still places available on courses during the World Curling Federation Adult Curling Week taking place in Bratislava, Slovakia from 23-28 October 2012.

UPDATE - as of 28 September 2012: The WCF notes the decision of CAS to confirm the Anti-Doping Rule Violation of Mr Armstrong but to reduce the sanction imposed by the WCF’s Independent Hearing Panel. The new sanction imposed on Mr Armstrong is 6 months meaning he can resume curling activities as from 6 September 2012.

The teams have now been confirmed for the 2013 World Financial Group Continental Cup, presented by Monsanto. The ninth edition of this unique international curling competition will take place from January 10-13 in Penticton, Canada at the South Okanagan Events Centre.

The World Curling Federation expresses its great sadness over of the death of Arleen Day. Arleen died on Tuesday, in Regina, Canada, after a long fight against cancer. She was 63. “The curling world has lost a great friend,” said World Curling Federation President Kate Caithness, “Arleen devoted her life to our sport.

World Curling Federation (WCF) technical delegates Leif Öhman, Keith Wendorf and Eeva Röthlisberger visited Sochi, Russia last week to check on the progress of work for the curling competitions at the Sochi 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

Lillehammer Curling Arena was officially opened on Tuesday by International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge. The four sheet facility is the latest dedicated curling facility to open in Norway. Lillehammer, which hosted the 1994 Olympic Winter Games, will host the second edition of the Winter Youth Olympic Games in 2016.

UPDATE: The World Curling Federation is delighted to announce the appointment of Scott Arnold from London, Ontario, Canada and Allen Coliban from Brasov, Romania as Competition and Development Officers (CDOs). Scott and Allen will join the WCF on a part-time basis. Their recruitment follows the recent announcement of the appointment of Thelma Black and Darrell Ell.
