Canada and Scotland played out a tense final of the World Men’s Curling Championship in Basel, Switzerland on Sunday afternoon in front of a packed house of some 3,000 spectators. After an extra end in a highly-competitive game, Canada emerged as 8-7 winners when their skip Glenn Howard delivered a well-judged draw-shot for the one point he needed for victory.

Sweden and Norway played out a tense bronze medal game that went all the way to an extra end at the World Men’s Curling Championship 2012 in Basel, Switzerland on Sunday morning. Sweden emerged victorious winning 9-8 and picking up the bronze medal for the second year in a row.

Sean Becker, third on the New Zealand men’s team has won the 2012 World Curling Federation Collie Campbell Memorial Award. Becker was selected for the award by fellow players at this year’s World Men’s Curling Championship in Basel, Switzerland.

Norway’s Bent Ånund Ramsfjell has been elected Vice President of the World Curling Federation. Ramsfjell, a 2002 Olympic Winter Games gold medallist, replaces Patrick Hürlimann who is stepping down from the position which he has held since 2010 due to work commitments.

The international curling championship focus moves to Switzerland, as Basel prepares to host the World Men’s Curling Championship 2012, presented by Ford Motor Company of Canada, from Saturday March 31 and runs until Sunday April 8. Twelve of the top men’s curling teams in the world will compete at the event which is being staged at the St Jakobshalle.

Eve Muirhead, skip of the Scottish women’s team, has been awarded the 2012 World Curling Federation Frances Brodie Award. Muirhead was selected for the award by fellow players at this year’s Ford World Women’s Curling Championship in Lethbridge, Canada.

Canada beat Korea 9-6 to win the Bronze medal at the Ford World Women’s Curling Championship in Lethbridge, Canada on Sunday morning. For Korea it was a little piece of history - a first-ever play-off appearance; for Canada, it was a disappointment not to be playing for gold.

Switzerland are through to the final of the 2012 Ford World Women’s Curling Championship after beating Korea 9-6 in the semi-final of the event in Enmax Centre in Lethbridge, Canada on Saturday night. Switzerland now play Sweden for the 2012 World Women’s title and Korea face Canada in the bronze medal game.
