Gold Final: Canada-Norway 9-3 Bronze Final: USA-Scotland 4-6 Canada’s Kevin Koe and his team of Blake MacDonald, Carter Rycroft, Nolan Theissen and alternate Jamie King, won gold at the Capital One World Men’s Curling Championship with a one-sided 9-3 victory over Norway in Sunday afternoon’s final in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy.

Play-off 3v4: Scotland 6, USA 4 Semi-final: Scotland 7, Norway 9 Norway march on to face waiting Canada in the gold medal final of the Capital One World Men’s Curling Championship on Sunday afternoon. Team Scotland went down by 7-9 to Norway in Saturday afternoon’s semi-final and now can do no better than take bronze from their re-match with USA on Sunday morning.

Norway 5 Canada’s Kevin Koe produced the best-possible response to his 8-9 round-robin loss to Norway on Thursday with a thumping 11-5 win in just eight ends over the same team on Friday evening in the Page Play-off 1 v 2 game at the Capital One World Men’s Curling Championship.

The World Curling Federation has elected Kate Caithness from Scotland as president. Caithness, who has been serving as Vice-President since 2006, was elected to the post, gathering more votes than Les Harrison who was seeking re-election, at the annual general meeting of the Federation in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy.

Infront signs exclusive three year supplier agreement on behalf of the WCF Infront Sports & Media have signed a three year deal on behalf of the World Curling Federation with Jet Ice as Official Supplier. The term starts with the 2010 Capital One World Men’s Curling Championship and includes an option to prolong the contract following the first three years.

The Capital One World Men’s Curling Championship gets underway this Saturday at the Olympic Ice Stadium in Cortina in the Italian Dolomites. It is the first time that a World Men’s Curling Championship has been staged in Italy. In 2009 Cortina hosted the World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship at the Ice Stadium which hosted the 1956 Olympic Winter Games.

Linn Githmark, skip of the Norwegian Women’s team, has won the 2010 Frances Brodie Award. Githmark was presented the award by Kay Gibb, President of the Royal Caledonian Curling Club Ladies Branch, at the closing ceremony of the Ford World Women’s Curling Championship in Swift Current, Canada.
Play-off 3 v 4: Scotland 8, Sweden 3. Semi-final: Scotland 10, Canada 4. Scotland had two victories on Saturday, beating Sweden by 8-3 in the Page 3 v 4 play-off game to move onto the semi-final in the evening. They then defeated Canada by 10-4 to march into Sunday’s gold medal final against Germany, leaving Sweden and Canada to battle it out for bronze.
