The World Mixed Doubles continues with day three of the round-robin stage

The World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship 2018 continues with day three (Monday 23 April) in the Östersund Arena in Oestersund, Sweden.

Session 14


Day three’s final session saw the two unbeaten teams in Group C, Finland and Estonia, go head-to-head. Estonia came out on top with a 9-4 win after scoring three points in the seventh end, then stealing three points in the eighth end to stand alone at the top of their group.

Norway continued their undefeated run with their third win of the week when they beat England 12-6. Czech Republic beat Germany 8-4 for their third win of the week and to also remain unbeaten.

Elsewhere in the session, Japan and Kazakhstan picked up their first wins. Japan beat Poland 10-2 helped by a score of four points in the seventh end, after which Poland conceded. Kazakhstan went into the eighth end of their game against Lithuania tied at 6-6 and stole a single point to claim the 7-6 win.

Session 13


Switzerland and United States maintained their unbeaten run in the championship with wins over Luxembourg and Slovenia respectively.

Switzerland defeated Luxembourg 10-1, scoring in six of the seven ends played. While United States beat Slovenia 11-3 in six ends after opening the scoring with three points in the first end, then scoring five points in the third end to take control of the game.

Sweden and Russia recorded their third wins of the championship in this session. Sweden beat previously undefeated Scotland 8-6 after scoring five points in the seventh end then stealing a single point in the eighth end.

Russia beat New Zealand 9-4 after scoring five points in the fourth end to take a 7-2 lead into the break.

In the session’s final game Italy picked up their second win of the week by beating Netherlands 13-1 after six ends.

Session 12


Korea kept up their unbeaten streak by winning their fourth game this afternoon against
Germany. Korea scored five points in the first six ends on the way to their 5-3 win.

Hong Kong got their second win of the day after beating Israel 6-4. Both teams were tied
until the fourth end, after which Hong Kong secured their win by scoring three points in the
seventh end then stealing a single point in the eighth end.

Elsewhere in the session, Hungary and Turkey remained unbeaten. Hungary beat Romania
16-1, getting all their points in the first six ends before Romania conceded. Turkey won 7-6
over Denmark, while China also got their third win by beating Slovakia 7-5.

Session 11


Canada became the first team to win four games after their 9-3 win over Guyana in the afternoon session. Canada stole six points in the first four ends, then scored three points in the sixth end after which Guyana conceded.

Spain picked up their third win of the week when they defeated Sweden 8-2. Spain opened the scoring with one point in the first end, then stole single points in the next three ends, before stealing two points in the fifth end for the 6-0 lead. A score of two points in the seventh end was enough to secure the win.

Elsewhere in the session, Belarus, Brazil and Lithuania all recorded their second wins. Belarus beat Croatia 13-4, Brazil won 8-5 over Austria, scoring three points in the final end for their win and Lithuania scored five points in the eighth end for a 9-6 win over Poland.

Session Ten


Day three (Monday 23 April) at the World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship 2018 began with session ten of the round-robin stage and saw Australia and Hong Kong record their first wins of the competition.

Hong Kong defeated Slovakia 8-5, helped by a score of three points in the first end and two points in the fourth end to take a 5-2 lead into the break on the way to their first ever international mixed doubles win.

Australia held off previously undefeated Latvia to win their first game of the week, 8-6 in an extra end. Meanwhile China defeated Israel 11-2.

Elsewhere in this session Scotland and Korea won their third games of the week to keep their unbeaten runs going. Korea beat Ireland 10-1, by stealing all of their points in the first five ends. Scotland beat France 6-2 in a game where they stole four single points in the first half to take a 4-0 lead into the break.

Session 13: Italy 13-1 Netherlands; Luxembourg 1-10 Switzerland; Scotland 6-8 Sweden; New Zealand 4-9 Russia; United States 11-3 Slovenia.

Session 14: Lithuania 6-7 Kazakhstan; Japan 10-2 Poland; Norway 8-6 England; Germany 4-7 Czech Republic; Estonia 9-4 Finland.
