Youth Olympic Games 2020

LAUSANNE, SWITZERLAND

Started Fri Jan 10, 2020
Ended Wed Jan 22, 2020

Lausanne, Switzerland

Curling at the Youth Olympic Games 2020 is made up of two events.

There is a mixed team competition for 24 National Olympic Committees. Each team must consist of two female and two male athletes, all of whom have been born between 1 January 2002 and 31 December 2005. After the team event, athletes are put into 48 mixed doubles pairs with different nations competing together.

To qualify for the Youth Olympic Games 2020, National Olympic Committees accumulated points based on their final ranking positions at the 2018 and 2019 World Junior and World Junior-B Curling Championships. After, the hosts, Switzerland, who gained automatic qualification, the Youth Olympic Games Ranking List qualified 15 National Olympic Committees. The remaining eight places were determined using the World Curling Federation’s Women’s and Men’s Junior Ranking Lists. From those lists, places were allocated by alternating the highest ranked National Olympic Committees not already qualified, first from the women’s list and then from the men’s list and so on.

The Youth Olympic Games Ranking List and the Women’s and Men’s Junior Ranking Lists can be seen below. For more information on how teams qualified visit page 47 of the World Curling Federation’s Rules of Curling.
